Lydenburg Accommodation - Mpumalanga Escarpment

Known as the outdoor enthusiast's paradise, Lydenburg has everything to offer nature lovers. Surrounded by high mountains, rolling grasslands and spectacular scenery, visitors to Lydenburg accommodation can expect some marvellous, hidden Mpumalanga fishing spots; routes which are ideal for 4x4 trail enthusiasts, and spectacular hiking trails through the nearby Gustav Klingbiel Nature Reserve bordering Lydenburg, where you will discover an astonishing Mpumalanga treasure - the extensive ruins of Stone Age villages dating back to before 1500 AD, making the gentle 5km hike well worth the effort. While out on the Mpumalanga Escarpment, make sure you see the Lydenburg Falls 5km south-west of Lydenburg, which is regarded as one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Mpumalanga, and one of South Africa’s highest waterfalls, making the Lydenburg Falls a captivating sight.

Lydenburg's central location on the Mpumalanga Escarpment makes it an ideal base from where to explore other world renowned Mpumalanga attractions, like the Kruger National Park (a 90 minute drive from Lydenburg). Because Lydenburg is situated in the foothills of the famous Mpumalanga, Long Tom Pass, getting to the Kruger Park means a trip through Long Tom Pass, which is today a superb scenic drive - a far cry from the treacherous conditions pioneer wagon drivers had to endure in days gone by. Flanked by tall, lush eucalyptus and pine trees, and dominated by the peaks of Mount Anderson and Mauchsberg, the Lydenburg, Long Tom Pass route to the Kruger Park is a breathtaking experience.

While in Lydenberg:

- Golf at the Lydenburg Golf Club, where golfers will enjoy a leisurely round of golf on the 9-hole course, then round it off at the club house ladies bar.

- Visit Dick Heysteck's Game Farm - a game farm with a difference, where you have no problem spotting the Big 5, as all the wildlife standing in the grass are life size sculptures made from concrete.

- Delve into Lydenburg's history at the Lydenburg Museum located in the Gustav Klingbiel Nature Reserve, where you can learn more about the Pedi people's culture, and where early humans lived.

- Go fishing in the Sterkspruit Nature Reserve on the Sterkspruit River, which is stocked with rainbow trout to the delight of avid fisherman.

- Horse ride with Lydenrust Horse Trails - where you can enjoy stunning scenery, birdlife and free roaming kudu from the back of a horse.
