Bo-Langvlei - Wilderness, Garden Route

Bo-Langvlei, also known as Upper Langvlei, is a picturesque lake located approximately 3 kilometers from Kleinkrantz, Wilderness, in the Western Cape of South Africa. This serene body of water is part of the larger Wilderness National Park and is situated in a beautiful natural setting surrounded by lush vegetation and diverse wildlife.

The lake is renowned for its tranquil atmosphere and is a popular spot for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. It provides excellent opportunities for birdwatching, as various waterfowl and other bird species inhabit the area. The surrounding wetlands and forests add to the ecological diversity of the region, making it an attractive destination for those interested in exploring the natural beauty of the Garden Route.

Surveys on Langvlei alone indicate that at times water bird abundance can exceed 7000 individuals. These are made up of over 65 different species. This abundance of water birds, and in particular ducks and geese which are often made up of nine different species, represents the largest concentration of species and individuals along the southern and eastern Cape coasts.

Bo-Langvlei is also accessible via a network of trails and paths that offer scenic views of the lake and its surroundings. The calm waters and picturesque landscape make it a perfect spot for peaceful walks and nature photography. Its proximity to Kleinkrantz and the Wilderness area ensures that visitors can easily incorporate it into a broader exploration of the Garden Route National Park.

It is important to note that Rondevlei, Bo-Langvlei and the channels between them were designated as fishing exclusion areas, under the Ramsar Site, to prevent the impacts associated with fishing and bait collection.
