The Cape Recife Nature Reserve is 366 hectare reserve of mainly dune vegetation located off Marine Dr in Schoenmakerskop. The trail is appx. 9 km in length and typically can be walked in about 3 to 4 hours,

The reclamation pond has a bird hide where various ducks and waders can be viewed in the water and many species of reed birds can be spotted in the marsh, as well as the occasional otter.

Crossing the causeway and heading towards the beach you will pass through areas of dune vegetation where you might catch a glimpse of the bush pigs that live in this region.

The rock pools near the lighthouse support various invertebrates and other sea life such sea urchins and anemones, which are best appreciated with snorkel and mask during low tide.

A penguin colony at the end of the point provide sanctuary to the endangered African penguin, although as of yet, no permanent colony has been established.

The fortress observation post and the barracks ruins are leftover remnants of the harbour defenses that were erected during the 2nd World War.
