Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens in Newlands,Cape Town was established in 1913 with the primary goal of preserving the unique and diverse flora of South Africa. Situated on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain in Cape Town, it was the first botanical garden in the world dedicated to a country’s indigenous plants. The gardens were developed on land bequeathed by Cecil John Rhodes and were spearheaded by botanist Harold Pearson.
