The Old Boksburg Law Court in Boksburg, Gauteng, is a historical building that dates back to the late 19th century, serving as a key part of the town's early legal and administrative history. Designed in 1890 by Sytze Wierda, who at the time was the chief architect of the ZAR's Public Works Department. Building comenced on the 15 October 1890 and was completed by April 1891. It played a central role in the judiciary system of the time, particularly during the era when Boksburg was one of the key mining centers on the East Rand. The building reflects the architectural style of the period and stands as a reminder of the town's early days during the development of the gold-mining industry.
Before being commisioned by the Boksurg Municipality in 1958 for various community organisations the building was used by the magistrate and his staff who witnessed numerous cases and legal proceedings that shaped the socio-political and cultural aspects of the region. The courthouse has since become a historical landmark, and its preservation is part of efforts to maintain Boksburg’s heritage and give modern visitors a window into the past. The building was declared a national monument in March 1963.
