Chapman's Peak Drive - Cape Town
Chapman's Peak in South Africa's Western Cape is a magnificent mountain situated snugly between the cosmopolitan city of Cape Town and the natural wonder of the Cape Peninsula. Chapman's peak rises gracefully from the east at a steady incline but the western wall drops steeply into the icy Atlantic Ocean.
The Western Cape boasts one of the most spectacular marine drives in the world - Chapman's Peak Drive. This 9 km stretch of road hugs the Western wall from Hout Bay to Noordhoek. The road was blasted from the dangerously steep western side of Chapman's Peak between 1915-1922 and instantly became a world renowned feat of engineering.
