Qacha's Nek District

Qacha's Nek is a district in Lesotho and is only two kilometres from the South African border. It has an area of 2,349 km² and a small population. Qacha's Nek has been the capital or camptown since 1888, and only town in the district. The town is home to Lesotho's first and only Snake Park, which is conveniently situated at the foot of the historic Letloepe hill / rock formation. This is where the cave of Qacha, the son of the Baphuthi chief Moorosi, after whom the town is named, is situated. ("Letloepe" means the cobra's defensive hood, and is the alternative name for Qacha's Nek).

Qacha's Nek Pass is a long, gravel road, high altitude pass leading to the border control point with Lesotho at the town of the same name. Go prepared for severe weather, including thunderstorms, electrical storms, rain, mist or snow. Beyond the border post, the road is tarred.

The people of Qacha's Nek are called "Melele" (Wanderers).
