Hazelmere Dam and Nature Reserve located near Verulam, is the ideal location
for scenic outdoor family getaways. The reserve provides a host of activities
for visitors, which include leisurely walks along the Forest Hills Trail, where
one can spot a large and interesting variety of butterflies and birdlife.
The Hazelmere Nature reserve also offers a variety of wildlife for the gaming
enthusiasts which includes impala, wildebeest, zebra and numerous other antelope
species. The dam has become a hotspot for water based activities, and visitors
can look forward to excellent opportunities for boating, Yachting, canoeing,
wind surfing and jet skiing. Fishing at Hazelmere also proves to be a profitable
experience with decent catches of Carp and bass being landed. Fishing permits
and boat registration forms are required, and are obtainable from the gate.
Visitors can also look forward to a number of scenic shady picnic sites situated
along the manicured lawns on the waters edge. A choice of luxury accommodation
is also available at Hazelmere Dam, with the the new Lakeside Lodge, and Forest
Lodge, set in a secluded woodland overlooking Hazelmere Dam. Both Lodges are
fully equipped and provide the ideal family getaway. Camping and caravanning
facilities are also available, as well as a kiosk which supplies various food
items, soft drinks and snacks.
